STDs

Drum roll please......we have booked a date!! (and obviously a location) This has all been confirmed not only by the venue but also by the Superintendant registrar and deposits/ booking fees have been paid!

Obviously this is very exciting news, and I'm sure those of you reading this will be excited to know what the date is. However I am not going to reveal it as it would spoil my STDs (also known as Save the Dates). They are ever so cutes, and I think I will upload them to this blog once they have been sent out.

In order to save money I am sending them out with Xmas cards, and only plan on doing this for the time being for whole day guests (ceremony day reception and eveneing reception). It kind of makes them like golden tickets, as they are just slipped into a select few cards. Of course this does not mean it is easy. I wish I could invite so many more people, but the cost and venue unfortunately restrict the numbers. What a perfect story it would be if everyone got a golden ticket!

Anyone who does recieve one and wishes to book a room at the venue should contact me first, as I can give them a code to get a discounted rate. Although I would say that anyone who lives in Jersey would still have a cheaper day if they got a taxi home...as no where in Jersey is far!

D day (or should that be B day?)

Yes it is nearly time to confirm the date!

In the very near future (although I do not wish to say exactly when for safety reasons!) I will be journeying over to Jersey to view/ review 7 wedding venues and then book my wedding!

This is of course very exciting and it means things will finally start rolling, which after over 2 years of engagement feels well over due.

But it also makes it seem very real, which as well as being wonderful...is a little bit scary. After all, a wedding might just be a fancy party, but it is a one off event. Granted it is less one off than my eighteenth birthday party, as I can always renew my vows or hold a second wedding with the same husband. However, I feel much more pressure in booking and arranging my wedding than I ever had over a birthday.

I suppose this is because a birthday party does not have the same expectations as a wedding. There are many more set traditions and expectations surrounding a wedding, and people will be looking out for them. If you are going to alter or break any of these traditions then it can feel like a very big decision. This is ridiculous, and I can recognise that. Yet still I feel like I'm taking my future in my hands when I go to Jersey and hand over the deposit.

I shall let you know how it goes, and what my final descision is. After which you can expect a lot more activity on this blog, as my wedding begins to dominate my life.

That tops the cake

So I've been looking at wedding cake toppers and seen some pretty cool and unique ones! I would quiet like to find a Scott Pilgrim themed cake topper as that would tie in with another bit of wedding stationary.

However in the meantime please enjoy these awesome toppers :)

Meat and greet

Today's wedding idea is something some will enjoy and others will find controversial....

...myself and my hubby-to-be have been discussing the idea of having an ALL VEGGIE WEDDING BREAKFAST.

To some this is an impossible idea, people can not be expected to go without meat! You can not tell them what to eat!! Ludicrous! But hold on.....first of all I thought this was supposed to be about the happy couple? Secondly the amount of times as a vegetarian I have had to go out knowing I will have the least choice, knowing I will have to compromise my meal choices..surely my wedding day should be the one day I know I'm going to have a great meal, and not be the awkward alternative!

Also thinking logically where are the carnivores going to miss the meat? It is common for a starter to be meat free without causing a stir. And it is only in Friends that I have heard of a desert containing meat, and that was an accident! Therefore the maincourse is the only place it would be missed. And if my loved ones can not forgo meat for one course for me...well I am perhaps not truely a loved one of theres!!

So I think a veggie wedding breakfast could be a good idea. It will mean that I am not a meal afterthought at my own wedding. And I can have those I love most experience my food, I can share with them what I love...and after all isn't that what a wedding is really about?

Unity candle

Recently I've been thinking more about the ceremony part of my wedding. As it won't be a religious ceremony it will be quite short. But I have been exploring ways to make it a bit more special than just vows, great your done.

One that I particularly like is the idea of a unity candle. This is where you have a large candle which the bride and groom light using smaller indiviudal candles to show them coming together as one. The couple can then extiguish their individual candle or leave them burning to show although they are together they are still independt and have serperate idenities.

This seems like a really nice idea to me, and you obviously keep the candles afterwards as a keep sake. My thoughts are that if you did it a certain way you could have the central candle as a 'family' candle, so that when we have children thay have their own individual candle. Then all three/ four/ however many of us to light the central one, again replacing a religious ceremony but still making a special occasion to signify an important event.

Party booth!

This is something I REALLY want for my wedding and I'm quite frankly amazed to find a company that actually does it...in Jersey!!

A real life PHOTO BOOTH for hire!!! Would be a nice way to commemorate the evening and jazz up the guest book!

Though it is a little bit pricey I think it might be worth it? Will have to have a think and see how it effects the overall budget!

But still, how cool is this?

Queen of Hearts

Here is a sneaky look at my first offical wedding purchase!! My tiara!

It was on sale and it was the last they had in. Actually they had to get it from another store as
they had none left in the warehouse and of course...it matches my wedding colours ^_^

Flower power

I'm rather into the idea of having a flower arch for the ceremony, we could get married under it, how cute and hollywood is that! Although I'm sure on how much they cost, which could quite quickly change my mind!!

We could also use it in the reception, perhaps as decoration behind the top table or over the entrance?

Whatever arrangement/ contruction of flowers we end up having there will be white roses and Jersey lilies to reflect myself and my husband to be...perhaps some stargazer lilies as well.

I've made an enquiry with a flower company in Jersey so I'll have to report back on whether the cost has put me off an arch...

The beginning of the beginning

Things are getting very exciting!!

- The wedding rings have been chosen.

- The venues are being narrowed down and explored.

- And budgets are being discussed.

Current venues in the running are:

  • L'Horizon Hotel
  • St Brealde's Bay Hotel
  • Private proerty venue over looking St Ouen's bay
  • Sommerville Hotel
  • Hotel Cristina
I will issue an update on which venues are still in the running as desicions are made.

October will see us making a trip over to Jersey to decide upon venues and that is when the count down starts in earnest and the deadline is set....I can not wait!!!

Welcome!

Okay so rather than trying to contact people individual and end up bothering them I thought as an e-Learning Support Officer, MA Media student and general technology enthusiastic I would start a blog to share my wedding ideas, and allow everyone to imput in their own way!

I will be posting various things here, such as links, ideas and possibly the occasion rant about an unpleaseant retailer, stressful sitaution etc.

But please remeber this is fun and it's the internet..so if I have a bridezilla moment you just close the window with this blog in it!!!
